The only case and external charger for the iPad that you will need. Review by Michael
Rating
Pros -

The iZen NT1400 serves the dual purpose of both a case that protects the front and back of the iPad and as an external charger as well. The iPad fits perfectly in the hard shell that protects the back and the front soft cover utilizes the on/off feature when you open and close it. Charging light indicator allows user to verify that the iZen battery is charging as required using different colored light schemes to show progress of battery charge. By using the cables that came with your device, you have the ability to charge many different devices and charging my iPad was as simple as using its own cable and pressing the power button. Build quality is excellent and much detail was put into the design. Also, the black and silver color of both the case, and the battery pack compliments the iPad well. User instructions are minimal with both visual and written instructions that provide the user with enough information to use and operate the case.

Cons -

The only con that is evident with the iZen 1400 at this time is the weight. Without the iPad, the combination of both the battery and case (front and rear) is noticeably heavy and once you install the iPad, it weighs even more. Once you remove the 1400 mAh battery from the case, it is substantially lighter with the iPad installed. Also, removing and installing may catch the user by surprise the first time that it is done but after that, it becomes second nature. The USB output adapter can get lost if one is not careful enough but that is up to the user to deal with. (Posted on 3/5/13)
A great idea Review by robert

The first thing I did when I received the New Trent izen power folio was to charge its battery. Surprisingly it took only three hours, so it was charged pretty well from the factory. The case is well built and is a quality case. The battery is powerful and charged my ipad and iphone in no time. I like the fact that there is an indicator light which tells you how much power is left in the battery. The case offers great protection for the ipad, and all ports are are easily accessible..

This case, in my opinion is a great invention from New Trent. It has good weight to it. Keep in mind the weight it adds to your ipad. If you are used to your leather case for your ipad, you will have to get used to the izen. The two combined are a little heavy. I purchased a six inch USB connector for the case. This cable sits on the side of the case. Although it is not unsightly, an improvement is needed.

The material of the case is smooth and feels good. However it is a lint magnet. I think a better material would be a faux leather, even if it added to the cost. This case is fantastic, however I believe the ideal user would be a person who travels a lot and needs the extra power. For the casual ipad user I would not recommend it.

The magnets, it seems are not strong enough to hold the ipad in place. I found myself constantly aligning the case, which can be annoying. In closing I feel this case is wonderful but needs a few improvements as I mentioned. (Posted on 2/26/13)
Flexible and Stylin' Review by Patti
Rating

If you are looking for a good charger, and also want protection for your iPad and a flexible stand in a very professional looking cover, I think the iZen Power Folio is a really tidy solution.

It's such a nice product, and it works so well, that it compensates for things that frustrated me a bit in the beginning, and others that would make this device really high end.

Performance:

1) To try out my Power Folio, I drained my iPad (4th gen) completely. I had charged the Power Folio overnight and into the next morning. I’d say it was around 18 hours. I charged my iPad on the Power Folio to 100%. The battery still had life, as indicated by the green power light, but I didn’t think to try and charge another device to see how far it would go.

2) I charged my iZen Power Folio for roughly 20 hours (overnight and until noon the next day). I unplugged it, folded it up, and left it on my desk untouched for almost two weeks. Since there is no battery percentage viewer on the iZen, I can’t tell you how much battery life the Power Folio had in it for this exercise, but I can tell you what I was able to charge. When I attached my iPad (1st gen) for charging on the Power Folio, it had a battery percentage remaining of 46%. My screen was off, all apps were removed from memory. The iPad charged 100% and the Power Folio was still available for charging my iPhone 4s. It began charging with a battery percentage remaining of 66%, screen off, apps removed from memory. It charged to 95% before the Power Folio shut down.

I wish it had:

3) I’d like it to have a battery percentage indicator so we know when it’s fully charged and how much it has in it if it’s been charged and waiting for some time.

4) A redesign of the “Power-in Cable” and the “Output USB Adapter” would be worthwhile. Give each its own port on the folio. In fact build the “Output USB Adaptor” into the Power Folio so that the user doesn’t have to search for that small part to charge the Power Folio.

Things to consider:

5) Once you unpack your Power Folio, decide where you are going to put the “Power-in Cable” and the very small “Output USB Adaptor”. If your Power Folio is going to ride around in your brief case or your backpack, you may do well to toss these items and your iPad and your 10w power adapter and its USB data cable, into the case with your Power Folio iPad and other devices. The thing is, you need to have them handy for switching from charging the Power Folio to charging your devices (and vice versa), but some of the set will be sitting somewhere unused while the other is attached.

Instructions. I’m sure the intent was to simplify a simple process. Four things keep it from being as intended

6) The Battery Pack is already inserted when you receive the unit. Therefore, the package contents and the picture on the reverse side of the card should not show Item 2, Battery Pack as a separate item.

7) The picture of Item 4, “Output USB Adapter” on the reverse of the Instruction Card, is outdated. The current “Output USB Adapter” looks nothing like what is shown on the instructions.

8) The sentence at the bottom “Light will stay on during charging...” is ambiguous. During charging of what? Well, it turns out that a Green light will stay on during charging of your devices. The rotating Green, orange and red lights stay on while the Power Folio is charging. And, on my device, there are no stationary colors indicating power levels.

9) Put the pictures on the front where the words are.

"Nice Folio" Review by Chris

I've had a chance to use the iZen for about a week now and it works extremely well. It fits the iPad perfectly and the way it works as a stand is very nice, particularly the various angles that it adjusts to. The instructions that are printed on the box are a little lackluster and could use some updating. So far I have only charged the iPad once but it worked well, since the iZen is specific to the iPad it would be nice if it were packaged with a 6" cord for the iPad so that you wouldn't have to carry around the longer one. I have ordered a 6" combination micro usb, iPad cord and think that it would complete the package very nicely. The usb adaptor that comes with it should probably be permanently attached or built in. It is a vital part and seems easy to misplace. I personally used some double sided tape to ensure that it stays in, it does not add much bulk to the case and I don't notice it much at all. Overall, I would rate it a 4. (Posted on 1/24/13)
Great case for traveling Review by Sue

Unboxing:

The unit comes in a box and is well presented. I felt like I was getting a sturdy piece of equipment.

The battery in the IZEN now comes inserted into the unit. There's a notice in the box stating the difficulty some people had inserting it. The notice clearly states the item is new and not refurbished or used.

Instructions

Pictures are on the cardboard piece you use to remove the IZEN from the box. Written instructions are on the back of the cardboard which I missed only because I didn't think to look there. An arrow or the word "over" would have been helpful.

IZEN

The item has a fair amount of weight to it. The plastic that your iPad fits into is not flimsy at all. In fact, the iPad fits right in without any problems and is very well protected. The cover, on the other hand, does have a little movement to it when closed. Not a big deal, but would be nice to have it completely closed somehow. It also seems like its made of suede which can attract dust.

The stand is great -- you are able to choose from 2 different positions and it never feels like it's going to fall over. Unfortunately, you cannot use it in portrait mode.

The light on the side of the silver bar - turns green for full power, then orange - then red.

Charging:

It took about 9 hours to charge the IZEN.

I was able to get a 100% charge in a little over 3 hours for the ipad2 with minimal usage during charging. The light on the side turned orange in a very short time - but never turned red during the charge. The IZEN turned itself off when the Ipad was completely charged. Nice to know the IZEN will not waste power on something that's already charged.

I was also able to get my iphone 5 charged from 9 to 91% in a little over an hour.

Bottom Line:

This is a great item for someone who travels. I suggest you get a smaller cord -- it's a very short stretch from the connector on the IZEN to the ipad and the longer cord is always in the way. (Posted on 1/18/13)
Your best buy for the most power Review by Matt S

First Impressions: At first unboxing, I was worried the iZen would be a little too bulky for my every day use. I quickly realized how much of a necessity this product really was. For travelers, look no further for a better battery case. Not only can this case recharge you're new iPad by 80%, hook your iPhone up to it and you are set for numerous recharges. Another worry I had was having to use an extra data cable rather than a connector being built on the case. I am so glad now that this is built the way it is, because I have found myself using the case to charge my iPhone a good amount already along with iPad use. I was able to give my iPad plenty of juice for a few days (moderate use) and recharge my iPhone a few times before having to recharge the case!

The fit: The iPad fits snug in the case, and is easy to remove. A nice feature is being able to just hook and remove the data connector whenever without having to mess with the iPad in the case. Another added bonus of the case is that it also features a smart cover which cuts the screen off by closing the case without having to hit the lock button. I never owned any type of smart case before this, so I have really enjoyed having this feature.

Pros: Very high power battery
Solid feel to the case, nice material
Ability to charge other devices

Cons: Slightly bulky

The Final Word: If you're looking for the best battery for your money, look no further. Although this case is slightly bulky, I can see why. This battery packs a massive punch that will keep your devices juiced on the go. I haven't found anything with this kind battery that looks and performs better than this one. New Trent has found success once again. (Posted on 1/15/13)
Overall, the convenience of having an integrated charger, smart cover case, and iPad device all in one nice, neat package, with the added ability to charge other devices, makes the iZen a big hit in my book and I give it 4 ½ stars Review by Laura
Rating
I was impressed right off the bat with the iZen’s packaging – very high-end looking, and the quality of the case itself was apparent. The iZen came with the battery pack already installed, so I just followed the simple instructions and fully charged it overnight. I have the latest generation full-size retinal display iPad, and it fit snugly into the case while still providing easy access to all of the device ports. I was expecting something a little larger, given that it was packing an extra battery, and was pleasantly surprised by the compact size. Even though the iZen doesn't add much to the overall profile of the iPad, it does add another 1 ½ lbs in weight. However, I've used several different portable external chargers in the past, and I can tell you that the convenience of not having to carry an extra charger is worth the added weight.

The iZen is simple to use; you just plug your USB device power cord into the removable jack at the bottom of the case, attach it to your iPad, press the power button on the opposite end, and the charging process begins. You have to be careful not to bump the jack and dislodge it, which I did a couple of times. It would have been nice to have a built-in port rather than the removable jack so that you don’t have to switch back and forth between the iZen’s charging cord and your device power cord; one less cord to carry, and one less piece of equipment to lose. But, these are minor points and don’t affect my overall impression of the unit. I put the iZen through a test to see how long it would take to recharge my iPad, starting out with my battery at 20%. I played a hidden object game for about 4 hours (which takes up a fair amount of juice) while the iZen was charging up my device, and still received a steady charge to around 50%; much better results than from my other external chargers. I next performed a test charge of my iPhone 5, starting out with my phone's battery at 13%. Even though the iZen was not fully charged, it only took about an hour to charge my phone’s battery to capacity.

Excellent Must-Have Accessory for your IPad Review by Ben
Rating
When I first received the New-Trent NT1400 iZen case with battery charger, I was a little nervous. The instructions were a little vague, and it just seemed too light, too portable to accomplish what it was supposed to. Well, was I wrong! The case came completely assembled, including the battery! Initially I thought that I was going to have to install the battery, which always seems to be a hassle, but that was done in the factory. The only thing that needed to be done is to plug a small RCA jack into the small charging piece that fits into the battery port (it's the long aluminum rod at the bottom of the case). Take the other end, and plug it into a USB extension, and then plug the USB extension into the Apple charging block that came with the iPad, and I was ready to go! On the one side of the aluminum "rod," there is an indicator light which will flash orange and then green, as the case's battery charges, and then flashes a green LED once the battery was charged. Complete battery charge took approximately 18 hours from the time I plugged it in. While that was charging, I ran my iPad down to 0% charge. Finally the moment of truth came: I connected the iPad via a 30-pin connector to the battery, and within about 10 minutes, I was getting a good charge to the iPad. Within an hour, I had enough charge to watch a movie, or play a game. These functions, in my opinion tend to drain the internal iPad battery the fastest. Better still, the iZen case, still had enough of a charge to revive my iPod Nano...twice! I was surprised that a battery so light as the one installed in the iZen case, would be able to charge my iPad, much less 2 iPods! Beyond the battery, the case itself is well built. The iPad fits into a plastic "tray" perfectly. In fact, it's close to even between the iPad and the holder portion of the case. To some this may not be a big deal, but to me, the more even the two edges, the less likelihood of the case falling apart due to stress, or the glass on the iPad breaking. The edges of the case seem to be stitched, which is another small detail that keeps the case from falling apart after only a few uses, as some of the other cases do. The foldable cover puts the ipad at just the right angle for me to watch a movie and not have to worry about it slipping or sliding away at just the wrong moment. I think that these features, as well as battery life, and convenience, makes this the perfect case for a traveller, or a student, who may use their ipad to take notes on, as well, as just the average person, who is tired of finding an outlet at the most inopportune moment when their iPad battery dies. If I were to change just one thing, I would want a small compartment, somewhere on the case to carry the small cables and its charging piece. I don't even consider it a flaw, just an idea! You certainly won't regret this purchase! (Posted on 1/10/13)
Protection and Power in One Great Package Review by Marji
Rating
I love the idea of a case and backup battery in one as while backup batteries have become smaller one less "thing" in my purse is always appreciated. The iZen case/battery comes with excellent packaging—though do remember to turn the "card" over to see the written instructions rather than just the pictorial. My battery was pre-installed and so everything was ready to go when I opened the box.

The iPad snaps in and out easily, making it feasible to "store" one or two papers or cards behind the iPad if you don't want to carry a purse but might need a list or insurance card. The black adapter for use when charging/discharging the battery snaps nicely into place and can actually just be left there as it has a pass through so you can charge the battery through it—very nice. (One might want to remove it from a form factor point of view.) The battery charge takes quite awhile (I don't know the exact number of hours) but all you need to do is make a habit of plugging it in overnight.

The whole cover/battery set-up is even more useful because NewTrent lets you charge •any• USB device. I get about 1.5+ re-charges of my iPad from the battery as well as numerous recharges of my iPhone and GambBoy 3DS XL. It would be nice if they included the USB to Apple cord shown in the picture (it's just the right length and mine are all much longer) but as most iPad users tend to accumulate such cables you can always "repurpose" one.

I like the overall design—the color (light black) and the non-skid texture are great, the case adds very little thickness and just about doubles the weight, the closure is magnetic, and all the ports, the camera, the speaker, the volume control, etc... are accessible. A large number of landscape viewing options are available though you might find that it's not very stable on a soft surface like a bed—however put a book underneath and you're good.

Overall I really like this product. I keep it charged up and just snap my iPad out of its beanbag and into the iZen when I'm ready to go. Then as long as I have my cables (I have a little bag of USB to whatever cables that I keep in my purse/backpack) there are no worries about power for anything I happen to have with me. The only things I would like to see are (1) the little cable and (2) a slightly more stable magnetic closure (this one can slip a bit, turning the iPad on and off). (Posted on 1/3/13)
Solid construction, easy to use Review by Q J
Rating

The unit arrived with a note in the packaging telling me that the package had
been opened so that newtrent could pre-install the battery pack into the case.
While it does not look like it would be difficult to do, it was nice to have the
unit ready to use right out of the box. The instructions for how to charge the battery, etc are on the back of the diagram. I did not find them at first.
I would highly recommend that you purchase a short "6 inch" synch cable for use with the iZen. I used a standard synch cable which was about
30 inches and it seemed to always be in the way. I could not find a short synch cable at any local electronics stores, but found one easilly on Amazon. I ordered one for $7.00 (bluejeanscable.com) which was 15CM long and just about perfect for connecting the battery to the iPad.

My first impression of the iZen's construction is that it is well made. It consists of a plastic case the size of your iPad with a cylinder just about the size of a AA
battery that runs across the top of the plastic case. The battery is
rectangular approximately 5" x 8.25" that sets under your iPad and protrudes
from the bottom of the plastic case about 1/4". The lid is attached on the
lower back and wraps around the case. This covers the battery so it is not
really noticeable when using the iPad. The plastic enclosure is sturdy and I
was very impressed with how well the iPad "snapped" into place. The four
corners were all flush to the top of the iPad and I never experienced any issues
with them coming un-snapped. I have experienced this issue with some plastic iPad protector cases in the past. The cover has a soft material on the side that lays on the iPad glass and the other side has a slight texture to it. The
folds on the cover are slightly larger (wider) than a standard Apple iPad
cover. I like this because when you fold the cover into a triangle for the
iPad to rest against, it creates a slightly higher angle which makes viewing the
iPad screen a bit easier. All of the ports on the iPad are accessible and I
had no trouble adjusting the volume. There is also a cut out on the lower left
side for the iPad speaker. The USB port has a small stereo like plug that
plugs into the battery tube on the let side. It has a tab to help hold it in
place and keep it from swiveling in circles. On a couple of occasions I bumped
this and it came unplugged. The one feature that is the most dramatic is the
weight of the case. It weighs just over 27ounces and when added to the 21
ounces of iPad, it is a bit heavy. For me, I gladly trade the added weight
for not having to find an iPad power source every time my iPad battery is
low. I cannot tell you how many times I have picked up my iPad to use it only
to find that I had forgot to plug it in and recharge the battery. With the iZen
I just power on the battery by lightly pressing the power switch which is
located on the right side of the round cylinder. A green light comes on to let
you know that your using its power. If you have the iZen plugged in to charge, it will not charge the iPad while it is charging. Having the USB port makes this a universal battery source. You could easily plug in smart phones, iPods, etc and power/charge them as well. Overall my initial impression is good for the iZen NT1400 Battery Case. Ease of use and build quality is 5 stars. Because of the weight I give it 4.5 stars.

How did I not have this... how many times have I traveled in the past and accepted that running out of charge is almost a given - no longer. and that is so comforting. Really love it. The case is also good looking which is a must. (Posted on 12/29/12)

This case is perfect for me. I have a lot of electronics and always seem to forget to charge at least one of them. Multiple viewing positions is a must for me because I like having my tablet viewable on my desk next to my computer. I have had a few other cases that gave me the viewing angels I wanted but didn't hold my iPad nearly as secure as this one, there is no chance of your iPad sliding out of this case. So far I have been able to charge my iPad, iPhone, and Bluetooth headset with no problems. I'm looking forward to taking this case on my next Business trip. (Posted on 12/28/12)

This is a great case for those that need extended battery life. The case battery life is long and gives a good solid charge to the device. The case is durable and holds the iPad securely. The battery can be used to charge multiple types of devices--I also charged my phone and Kindle Fire. The only reason I gave a 4 versus 5 is that the top cover moved easily for me and would activate my iPad. Overall it is a great case/charger. (Posted on 12/28/12)

I have enjoyed this cover for multiple reasons and only had a few issues with it...
The iZen was able to charge my iPad and my iPhone adequately and quickly! The piece you plug in to the iZen with the USB port (it looks like a headphone jack), is kind of flimsy. It bent slightly, but is still completely usable.
I like how the cover feels, although it wouldn't be my top pick for protection, mostly because I have the survivor case on my iPad. I love that it charges anything that uses a USB and that it incorporates the sleep-wake case! (Posted on 12/27/12)
A spare battery and a lot more!! Review by Dan

I can honestly say that we have really enjoyed using the NT1400 iZen battery case. My first impression on unpacking was that it was well presented and looked like a good accesory for my son's iPad. It looks and feels like a quality case and I was anxious to see how the smart cover feature worked as his regular case did not have that function. Installing his iPad was easy and it felt like the case was secure and offered adequate protection. I observed that even though the iPad with the case was noticeably heavier, it made a good impression as a matching accessory. The smart cover feature works really well. The last thing I would want to add to an iPad, is something that looked cheap and this certainly was not the case. The quality is there in form and function. I was surprised about that the electrical connection required a charging cable and that this feature wasn't built in. I hadn't given the versatality of carrying that extra battery much thought. As soon as I realized that the battery could be used to charge additional devices, this apparent drawback became a real advantage. I don't know if my son will continue to use it on a daily basis because of the increased weight, but for anytime when you need extended battery life it is a godsend not only for your iPad but also for your other devices.

Over the Christmas holiday our family took an extended road trip. My son watched a couple of movies and listened to music over the trip to my cousin's house, still with a full charge. When we finally got there I noticed that my iPhone had only a 50% charge left due to extended GPS use. At this point, normally I would have to start rationing use or find a charger, but with the benefit of the battery in his iPad I was back to a full charge in less than an hour. If my wife's iPod Touch had needed charging, I'm sure it would have handled that also. It was nice having the security that an extra battery brings. (Posted on 12/27/12)
Great Battery, Decent Case, Too Many Peripherals...for me. Review by Neila
Rating
Overall I would rate the iZen a 4 out of 5 stars.

This product is for a highly specialized group of individuals.
Typically high travelers. The functionality of the battery charger
itself is that it works as it was designed, to charge not only your
ipad that is sitting within the battery folio case, but also other
products. I have tested the charging capabilities of 2 different types
of blackberries, 2 different iphones (iphone 5 and 3gs), a PS Vita and
a few micro USB charging headsets and headphones I have. The
folio/ipad case that the batter slips into is functional, although not
that eye popping to look at. Protection of the ipad is there, granted
if dropped with the extra weight of the battery I question if the ipad
would survive. I used this product for several weeks, while traveling
and while not traveling.

There are two items that do not suit my needs and one of them in my
opinion may be redesigned within the product.

1. All the proprietary connectors. The iZen uses a 2.5mm headphone to
USB adapter, then you can connect your USB cabling for your apple
product. Non-apple products need another USB extension adapter on the
original, then you can connect your USB cabling. The charging cable is
also proprietary USB to 2.5mm. So that is 3 different connectors, one
for charging, one to connect USB cable for apple products and one for
non-apple USB products. For me this reduces the usefulness of the iZen.
In addition to all my own cabling, being forced into my proprietary
cabling and connectors makes for more room for me to lose pieces.
(This is what could be redesigned within the product, in my opinion.

2. The battery within the case makes your ipad very heavy.

Personally I would rather have the specific case I want for the ipad
and a separate battery charger that can handle the various amps and
doesn't have several adapters to work/carry along. With all of that
being said, the iZen does function as a case and charger for your ipad
and charges other devices. The battery itself is VERY long lasting and
can charge multiple devices multiple times. The battery indicator
light gives you an idea of how low your charge is getting on the
battery which is useful to know when you may want to consider juicing
up the battery again. 4 stars given the extra weight wrapped into the
case and I would prefer the convenience of reducing the adapters
proprietary or not.

Very Creative, Excellent Product Review by iPad User

The iZen Power Folio is a rechargeable external battery case for the iPad
2/3. It features a tri-fold front cover that can be used to tilt your iPad
at several different angles, depending on your personal preference. The
case is very sturdy and seems like it would hold up well over time. The
inserts on the tri-fold cover seem to be plastic rather than cardboard,
meaning that it will stand up to daily use and you won't have to worry
about accidentally bending or creasing your cover.

The device is simple to use. You plug the included USB power cord into the
jack at the bottom of the folio, plugging the other end into either your
iPad wall adapter or a computer USB port. Press the power button on the
top side of the folio and charging begins instantly. There are three color
indicators to let you know how much battery power you currently have.
Green means fully charged, orange means medium charge, and red is low
charge (meaning that you need to recharge soon). As the device is
charging, it cycles through all three colors, which can be a bit confusing.
However, once full charge is obtained, only the green light shows. The
iZen Power Folio has worked well for me. I am a fairly light iPad user,
running my battery down to 60% - 70% power on a typical day. I was able to
fully charge my iPad from 70% to full charge (while continuing to use my
iPad) in just over an hour using the iZen. The iZen also detects when your
iPad reaches full charge and cycles itself off, so you don't have to worry
about overcharging or wasting your battery life. Several of my colleagues
noticed my iZen and were impressed with its functionality. It has a sleek
look, and is very portable and easy to manipulate, despite having such a
high-capacity battery. Overall, this is a great product. I am very happy with it, and I think any iPad owner would find it very useful to have on hand whenever you are taking your iPad on the go.

Pros:
-Easy to use
-Decently fast recharging time for iPad
-Case is sturdy
-Slim, sleek, professional look

Cons:
-Outer material is similar to suede or velvet; it tends to attract lint -- I would
prefer a faux leather texture or some other type of slick material that
would not hold onto lint as bad
-The color-changing cycle while the device is charging is a little bit
strange. To me, it would make more sense if the light stayed red until it reached a medium charge, then stayed orange until it reached a full charge, then
stayed green to let you know it is fully charged. Cycling through all three colors during the charging process was kind of confusing to me. (Posted on 12/22/12)
Good Case Review by Max

I have used this product for a while now and I dont give this case enough credit. It drastically improves my iPads usage since I just charge it when I get low without having to be near a outlet. It wont fully charge a iPad 3rd Gen or higher but it still provide you the extra juice needed when you are low. Besides charging the iPad, you can charge anything device that can be charge with a usb cable.
Some of the bad things that I noticed about the case that will make me rate this a 4 stars is that the front flip cover is a little flimsy and that it is heavy with both iPad and case together. That is my main gripe about this case but is still a very functional case that if you tend to run low on juice regularly, then you should get this. (Posted on 12/21/12)
Great Case for Travelling Review by Jack

Possible Improvements:
Stronger Magnets in the "smart cover"
- I didn't find the magnets strong enough to really hold my iPad2 in place. While the device was in my bag, the cover would flop around and expose the screen. I would suggest strong magnets

Provide retractable iPad Cord
- Having a log iPad cord really make the device/charging process an eye sore. Many people in my office approached me about the case, but were turned off when I showed them my long iPad cord. It would be nice to provide a cord with the appropriate length built into the adapter, or provide a cord with as retractable length.

Remove attached "smart cover" and make closed body
- I actually prefer using the Apple Smart cover as the cover for the device, so I would suggest not including it in the case. Make a hard case that covers the battery for charging.

Overall, I actually really like the concept and the case design. The added weight wasn't a problem for me. I did find myself in a meeting with my device dying, so it was nice to be able to just plug the cord into the battery and continue with the device. My biggest suggestion on this would be to provide a sleek cord that is the appropriate size and I would have really no major complaints. (Posted on 12/21/12)

The case is very practical for someone on the go. I use my iPad all the
time and I always forget to charge it over night. The case itself is great
at all different angles and positions. The material that was used feels and
looks high quality. With the case on you can still access all ports,
speaker and sleep button are also easily accessible. I have owned similar
cases but without the battery. I like how the design kept the bulge to a
minimum. You really don't even notice any extra space for the battery. The
weight is also good even with the large battery in the case. The battery charges the ipad very well and lasts long before you have to recharge. I also have been using it to charge my iPhone while using my iPad. Overall I am very satisfied with the case and would recommend to family and friends. (Posted on 12/20/12)
Great Case for travel and long runs Review by Doug
Rating
The case is great, a definite 5; functions well and simply, is very stable and flexible, made of good material, magnetically shuts off my iPad II, and has multiple angles that can be achieved providing more options than other covers.

The batter charged and charged my iPad as I expected it to. The indicator light was helpful. I can go a long way with the power this product is holding for me.

The downside - it is heavy even though the amount of power available makes up for it. The charging port is not integrated into the pack.

Protective case with a removable battery keeps it lighter when you don't need the spare juice Review by Jason T
Rating
The battery in this case ROCKS!!! It charges up my brand new iPad (4?) and still has enough juice left to get my 4S topped up too! Since you won't need to have the battery with you most of the time, the case is designed for the battery comes out easy - which makes it a good carry case and lightweight when you know you don't have a need to charge coming up.

The case is well made and aesthetically appealing. Cases such as this are great for traveling road warriors, times when you don't want to or can't charge off a wall socket (Hurricane Sandy, camping etc) gaming, and devices that see some heavy use.

I would find it helpful if a standard USB could be integrated instead of the headphone style connector as it's just one more piece I have kept in my bag. Perhaps a reverse style cable to perform the charging as you'd need a female USB connector to utilize standard device charging cables. From a technical engineering standpoint though, I'm not sure how or if this can be easily accomplished.

Overall, I'm very happy with this case and it fits well into my traveling lifestyle. I have found I use my new iPad more knowing that a charge is so close by.

For anyone who is a traveler, or just looking for extra batter life for the
ipad this is an excellent product. Im always traveling, or working

looking for a solution, because I carry both my ipad and iphone. Having the
ability to extend my battery life of my ipad with the nt1400 and plug in my

Great size portable battery that is easy use and will provide power for many uses. Review by Dave
Rating
I have used the iZen Power Folio for the past 2 weeks regularly throughout the days, only charging my devices via its external battery connection. I ran the iZen to out of power 4 times in two weeks, the rest I ran it down to red the rest and would fully recharge it over night. I it would take more than a few hours to charge fully, which is fine due to my use on the road and in the office, I would return home or to the hotel and plug it in until the morning. By then, it would be full charged (green). The simple touch of the side button to activate the color(s) indicating charge status is very easy and effective. I like a percentage based charge status (like phones and tablets have) but being that the iZen is a secondary device to extend my primary device's battery life I am fine with the colors.

The iZen holds the charge for a period of days, I cant speak entirely of how long, but as long as its a few days (business trip) it makes it more than sufficient for me and my uses.

Pros:
• Packaging is very hassle free, easy to open and only has the essentials. The battery was preinstalled.
• The "folio" is a nice textured matted leather black finish that has a tri-fold in it to prop up as a stand. The back piece is a black plastic hard shell covered with same matte black leather with hole for camera lens and cutouts for volume and on/off buttons. The base can also "roll" out on the groves as well and "prop up."
• iPad 2 fits in snug, no issues.
•14,000 mah - lots of power!
• USB charge - Charges device while in use. Turn on battery, plug in the device's USB cable into the battery and into device.
• Charges other devices such as iPhone & Android phone & tablets.
• To charge the iZen, you use the same adapter as the iPhone or or Android phone adapters (bricks).

Con:
• Color status
• Case only fits iPads, but charges many devices.
• Heavy (but with 14,000mah it will be)

Summary - Great size portable battery that is easy use and will provide power for many uses. (Posted on 12/18/12)
Awesome Case with Amazing Battery Life Review by Amzad

Un-boxing

Un-boxing the NT 1400 was pretty simple. Upon opening it, a Lift Me tab allowed for easy removable of the case from the box and revealed the battery box and a small box of an adaptor to charge any USB device and a cable to charge the NT1400 itself. Brought my iPad (3rd Gen 16Gb White) and easily snapped it into the case. The battery was pre-installed with a note guaranteeing the battery and product is new and that the battery was pre-installed since some customers were having trouble installing it. This is a plus as it shows New Trent takes customer feedback seriously.

Case & Feature

The quality of the case is pretty good. Very smooth, sturdy, and nice cutouts for the power and volume rockers even if you have big fingers. With the battery on, the case is slightly a bit heavier but the pros really outweigh the cons. Smart Cover function works great with my 3rd Gen iPad, no issues.
The case only stands in landscape with 2 settings with one optimal for typing and other optimal for videos. Power button of the battery is conveniently located on one side of the case and the port for charging on the other side. No USB plug is included but the iPad plug works fine. 3 Lights display the charge level on the battery once turned on. Green for high, orange for medium , and red for low.
Even for a worry-some person like me who is concerned about adequate protection for the iPad, this case does no wrong and even fits with the iPad in my carrying case.

Experience

You can say I haven't had much time to test but the 3rd week of December which is known as finals week for many college students such as myself but I found the case quite useful during this time. With study groups and tutoring, I'm not home much but I always carry my iPad since I have all my notes on it now ever since I bought a IMP38D keyboard case (Another story). Battery life has never been an issue but connection to the internet has whenever required. I found myself not really charging my iPad due to its great battery life but I've been charging my iPhone (2x-3x) but more importantly my T-Mobile hotspot which only lasts about 2-3 hours. What used to last 2-3 hours now lasts more than 7+ hours so now being online doesn't isn't a concern anymore.

There also a feature to charge the case and ipad at once but haven't tested it yet. If your having issues with taking off/putting on the battery, I suggest you search for "iZen Case Review" on youtube and you'll find many videos showing how to do it properly.

Pros:
Great battery life
Ability to charge any usb device
Great quality case

Cons:
Slightly heavier

The first impression have a lasting effect that is what I felt when I saw the package. For a moment I thought I received an Ipad but then realized that it was the battery case. There was note which said that the battery was installed on the case as it was the due to numerous feedbacks and it was good that I did not have the burden of installing it. The case itself was crisp and sharp and did not have smudge marks when you hold it. It had a perfect fit for my new ipad aka ipad3. The magnetic cover works well to switch the ipad on or off. I initially charged it overnight before the first use. My kids thought it was fun to watch the colors on side which indicate charging change between red, orange and yellow. In used it a few different ways. First I drained my ipad and then charged it with iZen and was using it continuously and the izen lights turned red after 5 hours. My ipad had a charge of 50%. Next time I did not use the ipad and allowed it to only charge. I was able to get 2 charges when I just charged the ipad without use. it was a little heavy and difficult to hold it with one hand. The power socket when used in output mode needs to be inserted in a particular position. I had a little difficulty initially to get it going and changed my cables couple of times before realizing that it as the pin that was not inserted all the way. Overall it is a really handy device which helps you protect your costly possession and provide you with power when you run out of it. Below are the highlights and some improvements that can be done.

Highlights
a.. Perfect fit for ipad 3 and provided adequate protection
b.. Charge while in use for atleast 5 hours with the ipad itself getting a 50% battery charge.
c.. Charge aleast 2 devices with a single charge.
d.. No figure print smudges on the case and looks and feels that it is well built.
e.. When used as a stand it has good center of gravity due to he tubular battery panel
Cons
a.. Due to the battery it makes the ipad a little heavier. It is difficult to hold the ipad in one hand.
b.. The charging and discharge use headphone type pin. It has not issues with charging but when the discharging pin adapter is used you need to insert it all the way in at a particular position. If a mini usb device is used it would be better. (Posted on 12/17/12)

I am very happy with the New Trent Powerfolio. One thing that has always bothered me about carrying around a portable battery is just that, I've got to carry one around. This case very fits a battery that provides enough extra power that I feel it sufficient enough for the price. I tested this case on my iPad and iPhone. I found that it charged both quite quickly. I charged the case mainly from my PC USB, it took a long time to charge from my PC, but leave it plugged in over night and you'll be fine. The Powerfolio will save the person who uses their iPad for business on the go, while not compromising looks and style. While this case does not get my highest rating in ensuring the iPad will be protected, I will say that it has quickly become my favorite due to it's style, real aluminum I cooperated into the battery, and design, Smart Cover compatibility, battery portability, and style! Great job New Trent! (Posted on 12/17/12)

This is a very sturdy well built case. Oh and it comes with a great battery. This unit is a little heavy, but that is expected with the battery. The battery will only give my Ipad 3 about an additional 45% of usage, but that is still remarkable. I did have an issue with the cable used to charge the NT1400. The inner contact pulls out of the head phone jack each time it is plugged in, but does push back in and is usable. Overall a very study and protective case with a really good battery. Portable Powerhouse Review by RCG

The NT1400 iZen is your portable powerhouse! I must admit that I was a little apprehensive when I received the NT1400. I wasn’t too keen on using the IPad Apple cable. However, once I charged it and installed my IPad it proved to be a very handy device. Actually, charging the device proved to be quite interesting as I watched the green, orange, and red lights indicating the level of charge (very cool). The NT1400 does a great job protecting your IPad. NewTrent thought of everything. When you close the cover the IPad goes off (just like it should). Back to the portable powerhouse! This thing is so great when you’re travelling. Not only will it provide needed power for your IPad, it provides power for your other portable devices as well. It gave me plenty of power to recharge my power hungry HTC Android phone. If not for having to use the Apple cable, I would have given this a five, so I’m going to give it four stars. All in all, I really
liked my NT1400, but at the end of the day, I had to go back to my NewTrent Airbender case with the built in keyboard. I truly love my Airbender (can’t IPad without it). It’s an absolutely awesome device. I can’t do without the built in keyboard. My IPad had to go from the NT1400 right back into my Airbender case. It’s my IPad’s best friend… like they’re made for each other.

iZen Review Review by Gary

When I first received the box, I was quite impressed with the packaging. It seems like every time I get a New Trent product, they improve up on the look and design of their packaging. This is important to me as I like to see what the device looks like and what it can do before I purchase it. When I went to open my box, it appeared to have already been opened which I thought odd for a new product. I was quickly pleased when I read the insert that said they opened my unit at the factory to install the battery. Several people have said the battery was hard to install and so New Trent took it upon themselves to install the battery for its users. I think this is excellent customer service and one of the main reasons I keep referring people to the New Trent products.

After taking the unit out, I snapped my iPad2 into the case. It fit very snuggly. The Smart Cover has a great feel to it. It also turns the iPad off when you put it over the screen! That's a plus for me. The builtin port to charge the iPad is a bit odd to get used to. It's a proprietary end that you then plug your iPad cable into in order to charge your iPod. The end does allow you to pretty much plug any other usb cable into it so you can charge your iPhones, Androids, DS, Bluetooth headset...really anything with a usb port.

The case allows you to stand the unit up at various angles. This is nice especially if you use it to give presentations. You can adjust the angle to make it easier for others to see it. The case is a bit heavy, but that's to be expected with the 14000mah battery. This unit charges up quickly and then will charge your entire iPad for you quickly as well. I was able to get an entire's day worth of work on my iPad having it plugged in without using any battery life from my iPad.

I didn't test drop the case, but I do think it would fare ok in a drop test as it does completely cover all the sides of the iPad.
Overall, I am impressed with this case and would recommend it.

I like the design and ease of use of the case with 3 viewing angles. The one drawback is you still have to carry a cord to charge the Ipad from the battery. So i have been looking for something to prolong my IPAD4 battery life when on travel and vacation. This fit the bill just perfectly. The 14000mAh is amazing, we traveled to the Grand Canyon with the kids and after a few hours its sometimes difficult to entertain them. We found that they get to watch their favorite movies on the road as well and with little to no worries on losing battery life. It has saved us from those embarrasing kid moments so i would recommend this to anyone looking to have ample extra juice and a boat load of protection with the nicely fit case and cover. Nice unit that keeps your stuff running Review by Marcus

The iZen packs quite a punch for charging your iPad (or other portable devices). The battery rests in a case with a smart cover, like Apple's. The unit is fairly heavy, but if you need extra juice, it'll do the job. The weight won't be much of an issue if you use your iPad on a table or desk. You could even use it as a detached battery pack (like on a road trip when the kids are fighting over charging ports). The battery charges easily and then charges your device quickly. Pretty smart design and execution. (Posted on 12/13/12)
Another Great New Trent Product Review by Ernesto
Rating
I had been looking for a case that would both provide the protection I wanted and additional battery life. Not only did the iZen meet these two criteria, but it also looked great and works to charge any other device via USB. Here are the high points that to me made this a 5 star worthy item.

Great construction with texture cover, that does not feels great
From presentation to execution top rate production
Extends the life of my iPad 2 by two! cuts down on charging
Great customer service and support
Not only does it charge your iPad it can virtually charge any device via USB

I have to admit that I love when a company takes care in the details, and New Trent has done that so far. From the time I opened the box I saw how New Trent listened to customer feed back and went ahead and installed the battery for you, which although it seems easy enough having the instructions written out and illustrated. Nonetheless, New Trent listen to the consumer and cut down one more step. Secondly the presentation of the case was great and the feel of it is solid. I also found it very useful that not only can you charge the iPad but any other device that you have with you from your iPhone to your Droid working great. Also the light display on the case is simple to tell how much charging power is left, giving you a heads up of when you plug in to charge. Lastly, I really enjoyed that you are actually able to adjust the stand several different ways to get the exact angle you need. Overall this is solid, well built, and a must accessory. Nice Product - Few Drawbacks Review by John

At first glance the Folio looks very professional. It has a very rigid
feeling to it also. The unit measures approximately 1/2 inch longer than
the iPad that I have in it. My iPad is and iPad 2. After installing the
iPad I could tell I was going to have no problems with the device slipping
out but it wasn't gripping it to tightly also. After about 3 hours of use
and carrying the folio with my iPad in it I did realize that it becomes
very heavy. Not to much of a draw back since the device comes with a
14000mAh battery.
The outside of the cover is like any other iPad Case. Its a Felt/Valuer
feeling case and does attract a ton of fuzz or dirt. Also, the front does
that the off/standby switch built into it but it does not stay in place if
you pickup the unit. There is no magnet in the cover to keep it from
sliding off the iPad when you pick it up. A small elastic strap could
easily solve the issue.
The battery life of the unit is amazing and if you leave your ipad
plugged into it you never think about charging it. I have no doubt it could
go for days without a single ounce of AC power. The kinda awkward part of
the device is that the unit does not actually have a 30 pin dock for your
device. It has a 2.5 MM jack that converts the battery to usb, then you
have to use a 30 pin cable from it to your iPad Device. I really wish this
had an actual dock or at least a solid connector that goes from the battery
to the I-Device.
I used the Folio for about 8 hours while at work and in court. Again,
the device does look very "snazzy" and almost as if your carrying around a
leather binder and legal pad. Court rooms in America now come standard with
metal detectors and security really looked over the big battery in the rear
of the unit and then after much anticipation asked where I got it. Luckily
for me it was a young guy! (Posted on 12/12/12)
Good case for extra power when you need it Review by Theresa
Rating
Having extra power is always a good thing when you have an Ipad that is in constant use. I use my Ipad all day long and battery life is always a problem.

The iZen NT1400 gives me extra power when I need it. I like that I don't have to carry a separate battery and case. Since the case is integrated with the battery you just snap the Ipad into the case and you have both protection and power. It’s fewer things to haul around. Because the battery pack is built into the case, I have mobile power and it allows me to stay on the job without heading back to the desk for a recharge before my day is done.
The case is textured with a black felt-like material that is easy to grip and doesn't slip out of my hand when I pick it up. The case looks a bit space age with the round silver tube that you plug into when you charge it. The top of the case doubles as a platform to tilt the IPad up once the case is opened for use.

There is a charge indicator light that tells you when the battery is charging or fully charged. It alternated between red, amber, and green until fully charged.

It would be great if the case included a dock on it so you could just plug the Ipad directly into it. But no cables are included to connect the case to the Ipad. It does include a charging cable for the case and you plug that into your own USB AC adapter. Once it was charged and I hooked it to my Ipad, the Izen provided a full charge to the Ipad and I was able to keep working without going back to my desk to plug it in.

Love This Case! Review by Dmitriy

First off, I got this product really fast and was surprised when I opened the box. For some reason, I thought that the entire product was made out of plastic but it turns out it is made of either same or similar to what Apple made their smart Covers with which is great. I really like the cover and the look of it is great on my Ipad too. It sort of looks like a laptop. Anyways, one thing that I dont really like about this is the fact that in order to charge your Ipad or other device, you must have the little converter piece and if you lose it or something happens to it, you will need to either replace it or buy a new product. I really like the fact that it has the auto sleep thing just like Apples cases which is that the IPad turns off when you close the case. Like I said earlier, I really like the material and also the positions that you can position it are great as well. From the day that I received this case up to this day, I tried testing this item and from my results, I am extremely satisfied. I was able to recharge my IPad during class and when I checked it was good to go. Also, the battery is almost not visible and the case takes very minimal space for the battery and I really thought that the battery will be bigger. I am really happy with this product and will continue using it. I would recommend this item to all. (Posted on 12/11/12)

I was really looking forward to receiving my new New Trent NT1400 iZen, built-in/removable 14000mAh iPad Battery Case, with built-in smartcover for the new iPad, iPad2. It has turned out to be one of the best purchases that I have made this year. I am on the road a lot with my job and am thrilled to have a battery with the built-in smartcover to use to charge both my iPad and iPhone.
I received the New Trent NT1400 iZen on time; the box came in perfect condition and well packaged for shipping, which I like. Upon opening, I found a notice from New Trent notifying me that they opened the package and for my convenience pre-installed the battery pack into the case. Apparently, there has been some feedback regarding battery pack installation. Frankly, I am very thankful that New Trent took a proactive stance and did the installation for me. This is not the first item that I have purchased from them and one of the many things that I like is the consistently good service they provide.
After placing my iPad2 into the battery case, it slipped a little as the battery is a little heavy which is to be expected. One suggestion is to consider placing a rubber strip or 2 – 3 pieces of rubber along the round metal bottom of the stand. However, it only took me a moment to get my iPad and case into a stable position. Additionally, I like the quality and functionality of the overall product. Usually New Trent products come with stellar instructions and or an enclosed manual. In this case, I found the instructions for use and charging time to be vague, however I managed to figure it out in no time. I really like the very informative and well-illustrated manuals that New Trent provides with most of their products. In summary I highly recommend the New Trent NT1400 iZen, it is a must have especially for anyone that travels or is on the road. Excellent! And rate it a 4 ½ - 5 stars.

I really liked the New Trent (NT1400) iZen, as it charged my iPad quickly. And I like the fact it would fit it into my purse and take it with me. I carry large purses. ;-) Like another reviewer said above, it is a little heavy, but I think it was to be expected. It is not too bad. Very high quality. This will come in handy when I travel. I am constantly on my iPad when I travel and I am constantly trying to find an outlet to ensure my iPad stays charged. I have tried another "cheaper" external battery, but it took forever to charge. Though it was a great price, it only lasted about 2 months and would no longer charge. I will be traveling in another month. Let's see what happens. ;-) (Posted on 12/10/12)

My experience with the New Trent Izen Power Folio 1400 has been very positive. I wanted a quality case to protect my Ipad2 especially when travelling, but I also wanted to provide a little extra backup power for those long trips away from power outlets for my Ipad2 but also for phones, Ipods, Nexus 7 and other assorted electronics that I carry but hate bringing other charging solutions along. This was a convenient solution to all my needs. This is an all-in-one device that provides not only a powerful 14000 mah battery(greatly extending the battery power of my Ipad 2) , but also a very durable and attractive case that gives me the added convenience and flexibility of charging the batteries of all my mobile devices; all in a convenient and durable package eliminating the need to carry an extra/separate battery pack. I used the Izen with my Ipad2 and was amazed at how long I could use my Ipad2 without having to reconnect my device to a power outlet. I used it for a full 2 weeks without needing a charge. During this time I even used it to charge my android phone and some Ipods I was using too!)--incredible. Most of this usage was watching streaming episodes of television shows, movies and the like which drains the battery a lot. It was really convenient to plug in the Ipad 2(with my own charging cable) or other devices to the battery case, and I found it provided quick and efficient charging to every device I tried it with. I really like the look of the case and it fits and blends really well with my Ipad2 and provides a refined attractive look. The battery does add a little overall weight; however, the Ipad2 is so light I did not notice this too much and it didn’t bother me at all and I felt like it provided a little more protection on the backside of my Ipad2 where my current Apple branded screen flip case doesn’t protect at all. I travelled with the case most of the 2 weeks and while I’m often nervous carrying my device around and travelling with it, this case made me feel more confident that it is well protected not only on the front but also on the back. This is where the battery in this case is located and protects the Ipad from getting damaged from bumps to the aluminum ipad body. Overall this is a very good case and battery combination and one that hasn’t disappointed me yet, nor do I think it will you. (Posted on 12/10/12)

I got this product very fast! This iPad case is really nice looking! I was surprised when I saw that it is Alot like the iPad smart cover in which when you close the cover it will lock and when you open it it will unlock! I really like this feature, the only problem with it, Is if you fold the screen protector part behind the iPad if you move it just right the iPad will lock. I don't know if there is a way to fix it, and it doesn't happen all the time it's just some thing I noticed when I was playing a game and moved it just right to lock my iPad. The only other thing I can think of that is wrong with this product is that it was very hard to get my iPad in. This is a good thing because it will be hard for it to fall out on impact but a bad thing because I can't change cases fast. I love this case other wise. I will for sure use the extra battery when I travel. (Posted on 12/6/12)
Good Product! Review by Ricky

This product is actually pretty decent. It was able to charge my Ipad to
full as well as my ipod to full before it was out of power. The could have
been a bit more solid because I felt like it can wear out overtime. Also I
had to put a little force into plugging in my usb cables into the adapter
and i felt like the adapter could have been more universal then just a 2.5
mm plug. Overall i think this product is great to have around. Especially
with those long flights with the kids. They can enjoy more movie time with
the extra battery time the case provides. Also the color of the case is
very nice i wasn't expecting it to look that nice. The stand is very stable
as well when putting it up and even with the extra weight it didn't fall
over. The charging time for the external battery was fairly short after the
first over night charge. I was surprised how quickly my ipad charged 20% in
a little under 45 minutes on just a 2.5 mm adapter alone. In conclusion, I
would recommend this product to anyone who needs that extra power to keep
their ipad, ipod, or even smart phones going the extra few hours. (Posted on 12/5/12)
A must for the traveler Review by Tycho

As a frequent traveler myself, I'm constantly on the road and in airports trying to find a plug for my electronic gadgets. Once I got my iZen 14000mAh in my posession my life instantly got a whole lot easier. I never have to worry about finding that spot next to the outlet anymore. With the power this battery pack has I can go days without.
On top of it, it duals as a cover and stand. You can set up your Ipad in multiple positions to watch that movie, work, or surf on the iPad. Just be careful when you're holding it in your hand. The magnet is able to reach the spot on your iPad to trigger the auto-shutoff screen. If that issue hadn't been there, I'd give it 5 stars. (Posted on 12/4/12)

The first day when I received this case, i thought it was quite heavy. But it definitely will keep the life of ipad and other devices longer incase there is no wall plug. I walked around with it, people would ask about it. They seem to be very impress with it capability! I think this product is especially great for people who travels a lot, or maybe camping, places where there are no way to charge the devices so they don't have to worry about running out of battery as fast. I really like it, it makes my ipad looks more professional, the case is very sturdy, definitely will protect the ipad. Watching movie is much better, I don't have to look down at the screen anymore. Plus, this case is way better than the smart case, smart case you can only make it lean up a little, this one can go all the way up. Like it alot (Posted on 11/19/12)
Single-purpose excecutes perfectly Review by Matt C

This is a review of the New Trent 'iZen', full name: iZen Power Folio. There are lots of extended battery cases for the iPhone, but this is now a battery powered case for your iPad. Because the iPad has a bigger built-in battery than the iPhone, you need a more powerful external battery as well. A lot of batteries I see on the market are 5,000, 7,000 or 10,000 MAh, but this one is 14,000 MAh, which is the biggest battery I've seen. But New Trent has made this battery flat and wide so that it doesn't add much thickness to the iPad.

This case is for the traveller with multiple USB-powered devices who wants to make sure they always have power without bringing a separate battery for each device. Or, if you have an all-day presentation to make on your iPad, using this case will guarantee you don't have any embarrassing blank screens as your iPad powers down in the middle of your marathon session. It does add a little bit of weight, but if you're on an international flight and want to make sure you can finish all three of your movies that you brought with, this way you don't have to deal with half-bright screens just so you can eke out enough power to last until you get to the hotel.

First, you have to install the battery in the case by sliding it in along the grooved rails. What's nice is that once you've slid it in all the way, you know you're making a good connection because the little ring light on the end lights up momentarily to let you know you have contact. Then its just a matter of snapping the other end into the plastic shell and you're all done - there's no loose feeling or worries about the battery falling out.

Like all New Trent iPad cases that I've tried, the iPad also fits very securely in the case. There's a satisfying 'click' when you snap the corners in, and then you know you're in tight. Just like the battery, there's no worries about anything falling off.

The battery conects to what i'm calling the 'power bar' which serves a couple different purposes. First, the power bar has a small minijack plug in it that you connect to either the USB Battery-Charging dongle, or to the USB Cable for charging your device. Both cables are very small, and easy to slip into whatever you're carrying your iPad in, or even your jacket pocket if you travel light.

Operation is pretty straight forward - when you plug in the iZen to charge, the light indicates when its done charging, and while charging a device, the light changes to a different color to let you know its drawing power. The most important part of a battery case is of course the battery, and I was able to successfully charge my iPad off the battery overnight, then let the iZen charge back up during the day, then charged my wife's drained iPad the next overnight. You use your own USB charging cables, so youo can charge anything that uses a USB cable - iDevices, smartphones, dumbphones, USB helicopter, anything.

The case is functional as well. The power bar is also used to hold the iZen in one of two different 'display' positions, using the built-in notches on the front of the case. The front of the case also has magnets for activating the built in wake/sleep functions of the iPad. The magnets aren't strong enough to hold the case on if you hold it upside down, but they were sufficient to hold the cover closed while holding the ipad walking up the stairs or carrying it around.

The magnets are strong enough to activate the wake/sleep sensors when the lid is folded to the BACK of the case, but you get used to that pretty quickly and your pretty soon your natural instinct is to fold the case back in such a way that this doesn't happen.

The case is noticeably heavier that just the iPad by itself but that's to be expected when you're packing this much juice. This case is pretty specific-use, however, so if you're looking for a case with a battery in it, you're obviously not looking for the svelte 'barely there' case, because if you had that, you'd have to bring with a big honkin' battery too.

This case is for someone who wants to minimize the # of different accessories they take with them on a trip or someone who needs a battery for all-day, full brightness presentations (or marathon game playing sessions). (Posted on 11/11/12)
charges quicly Review by Ross

The case is very nice and charges quickly, I would say this is more for the busniess type or those who are traveling a lot. I would not recommend this for people who are onthe go because of the cables that kind of dangle off of it. It would be a much better design if the charging port was integrated into the case itself. Overall a great product, just need some minor improvements to make it the perfect case. Looks and feels very solid and enjoyed the stand while using it at work. (Posted on 11/7/12)
Great Case, Superb Battery Life! Review by FerSidhe
Rating
When I installed this initially the battery weight added to the iPad was a bit too heavy. However I am able to take the battery out for daily use and its great like that if I need to. The place this case shines at though is extended battery life. I have an iPad 3, and I am able to get a full charge on my iPad and another 60 - 65% after that. So 1 and 2/3 charges from a fully charged battery. I am a power user with the iPad, and I have tended to run my iPad at minimum brightness to get from 7 am to 10 pm on it. Now I get the brightness maxed out all day with the iZen Power Folio Case. As far as quality of the case itself, the iPad fits really well in it, it audible snaps into place and no fear it will pop out. The molding on it perfectly aligns with the elements of the iPad. (Volume, camera, speaker, headphone port, etc) Charging is done with your iPad charging brick, cables to connect to it are included. I have also used it to charge my iPhone during the day and my IT brethren have been suitably jealous. (Posted on 11/2/12)
Better than expected Review by daniel

I first love how the case is universal! Having the option of charging any
of my usb mobile devises has already been useful on many occasions. One
thing I would really have liked was to have a cable included specifically
designed to plug directly into the ipad however. It felt awkard using the
standard apple cord plugged into the L shaped extension and have all that
extra cable falling everywhere. The current system works perfectly for all
other applications I have found.

Even though the specs stated that I could get a charge on my Ipad for 80% I
received a full charge and was also able to charge my Iphone completely. I
am very impressed with how quickly it both takes and gives a charge. I
originally thought the weight of the case would be a put off for me. That
however wasn’t the case. For me it lent to a sturdy feeling and truly felt
safe carrying it around.

I expected to like the case but I absolutely love it. Because of this I now use this case as my main case and carry around my bluetooth keyboard from my other case for when I want to type with it. The extra battery option is just amazing. (Posted on 10/31/12)
A Great Case For Home, Studio or the Road Review by Sálongo

I received the iZen Power Portfolio a week ago and I have been very satisfied with it. I’m a photographer and visual artist and use my iPad daily and not always in nice dust free locations. This past week we’ve been on the road doing art festivals and using my iPad 1st. Generation and my wife’s iPad 2 constantly. After charging it at home before we left we recharged it while driving using our AC/DC inverter for the laptops and from the USB power adapters in the (lighter socket) power ports. We even ran the iPad 1st Generation off of the Portfolio’s battery with a 6 foot USB cord when it’s battery ran low and I needed to run process credit cards and my wife continued to show my portfolio slideshow on her iPad 2 still in the Portfolio Case.

The instructions were very clear and setting up the iZen was pretty straightforward and easy. The battery slipped right in and lined up with the connector and it charged to full power over night or in about 7 hours. I installed the iPad 2 in to the Portfolio and it felt very secure tight with no excess play or slippage in case while rotating the case from landscape to vertical positions. There are three suggestions I would make that would make this an even better case. One I would like to see someway to have the case stand in the vertical position at an angle, as I like to read my art and photo magazines in that position. My second suggestion would be a strap for the hand so I can hold the iPad securely while writing with my stylus and the last suggestion is a loop or pocket to hold my retractable New Trent Arcadia Stylus when not using my iPad so I do not have to hunt for it. Ideally I would love to see an iZen with the above suggestions in a case like the Air Bender.

An excellent product for any mobile iPad owner/owner of multiple USB-charged devices Review by Marji

The iZen comes beautifully and securely packed in frustration-free packaging—a big plus in today's electronics accessories market. The packaging includes both pictorial and written instructions—a good thing as while operation/installation are ultimately simple when you first look at the iZen the method of assembly (setting the battery into the case) isn't readily apparent. However if you follow both the pictures and the words and set the battery into the case (with the battery contacts touching the cylindrical metal bar of the case) *before* inserting the iPad it's really very easy. Snap the iPad into the case and it requires no other assembly.

You will have to remove any protective backing (i.e., a silicone/rubber shield that you have on the iPad) but then it snaps easily and securely into the case and creates a protected back. All of the ports and pieces of the iPad (speaker, volume control, headphone jack, etc…) are accessible. The rest of the cover is similar in design to the Apple cover (i.e., it is articulated to allow for folding and has a magnetic closure at the end) and thus folds over the battery, charger bar and screen and then "attaches" with a magnetic latch. (One of the few "cons" to this device—the magnetic latch could be stronger.) The cover material is sueded and has more of a "grip" on the darker gray outside than on the lighter gray inside. It can be folded up in a triangular manner much like Apple's cover or, for unlimited viewing angles, it flips in the other direction such that the battery bar is on the bottom, the inside of the top of the case forms the base and the battery bar rests anywhere along this surface. As the cover isn't extremely stiff it's best to put this configuration on a firm surface however I've found that I can nestle it in my lap.

OK, so it's a good cover—protects the corners, has a magnetic latch, etc… But that's not why you purchase it. The cool thing about this case is the aforementioned battery. The battery is about ⅛" thick and about half the size of of the iPad. Once set into the case it just about doubles the thickness and weight of the iPad—not bad. (It still fits in my purse.) The battery charges using a standard 10W USB adapter (cable provided but 10W USB adapter not provided) that attaches to one end of the battery bar. The other end of the battery bar is a combination on/off switch and status light. I found it took about 3 hours to fully charge (from a red status light to a green one) though I'm most comfortable letting it charge overnight as I'm not sure if the green status light means "fully" charged or something like 80% charged.

Once charged you attach a different adapter (provided) to the end of the battery bar that gives you the female end of a standard USB port and allows you to plug in a USB charger cable for *any* device you might have—the iPad in the case, another iPad, an iPhone, an iPod, a Kindle, a GameBoy, external speakers, etc… Thus if you're traveling not only can you extend the life of your iPad but also you can top off the charge on almost any other device you have with you. In fact now that I have the iZen I can't imagine traveling without it. I've been taking it out to PT and other medical appointments and it's rather neat to have my iPad charge actually go *up* while I'm using my iPad! I also know that if I've forgotten to charge my phone I can top it off and still have about ⅔ of the iZen charge left for anything else. I also no longer feel pressured to replace the batteries in my first generation iTouch and iPod Photo—I can always plug them in on the go.

The package I received did not include the cable that goes from the female USB to the iPad. Sure any iPad/iPhone owner likely has 3 or 4 of these and thus can dedicate one to the iZen but having one of the cute short ones like that one pictured would be nice. You also need to provide the 10W USB to wall adapter but, again, any iPad owner has at least one (if not more) of these.

Overall this is a well thought out, functional product that not only provides a great battery back-up but also a good case. True you can get fairly small external back-up batteries but not ones that you can integrate with your device—putting the back-up battery into the case was truly a stroke of genius. Great portable ipad power solution to keep multiple device road warriors powered up on extended trips. Review by Marcus
Rating
I received the unit very quickly after ordering,, and with very solid protective packaging.

The izen is two products in one, a high-class and quality suede leather ipad folio/cover with all of the familiar features of such a cover, including acting as a multi-adjustable stand, with the magnetic automatic ipad on/sleep functions of such a cover, plus a huge capacity 14,000-plus ma battery, which can charge anything that can be connected to a regular usb port.  The big external battery, as expected, adds some weight (but it is removable when you are around the house and don't need it), but is worth its weight in gold on an extended trip with no access to power.  It has the capacity to charge the power-hungry ipad 3 from zero to 80%, which is really quite a feat for a portable power source, and can recharge the iphone 4 or 5 at least a half-dozen or more times.  It can recharge our less hungry ipad  2 about one and a half-times, or some resulting combination of times for multiple devices. The cutouts fit all of the ports on the ipad2 or 3 fine.  It also worked totally fine to charge an android tablet and other usb-charger powered devices.

The features I like best are the integrated nature of the charging functions: there are simply two very small and very light (critically) add-on usb adapters that plug into the power port on the unit in which power from a usb connection either flows in or out.  There is no heavy external power brick needed (this is a huge plus on a road trip as many of us know) and even better, any usb power connection will work to charge it, whether connected to ac, a computer, or other usb-out power source, and it will either draw power from, or give power to, any other device with a 5 v usb input or output.  The device has three flashing color coded led lights built in, which tell you how much charge it has or needs to be itself recharged fully. It takes about 6-8 hours or so to recharge fully from zero if you use an ipad usb charger, and more with a smaller iphone usb charger, but either will work fine.  It has an on-off power output switch, so it draws power from the battery only when needed.  If you have time to charge the izen overnight, it really does not seem to make any difference which kind of usb charger is used, if you have less time use a higher powered ipad-type (10w) usb charger.

It is true that the device can be a bit heavy with the battery in it, but the folio and battery serve to protect the ipad well for everyday use, and again the battery slides out of the case when not needed.  Overall, this is a quality, heavy-duty portable power solution for anyone with an ipad.

I think this is a great, flexible power solution for ipad owners, particularly for those that want the flexibility of having a traveling power station that can charge many other types of devices too.     (Posted on 10/23/12)
Great design Review by Terry

The thought of having a battery backup and a case was very intriguing. When I received the iZen I found the build quality very high and the design quite clever. The iZen is a great case and works flawlessly to keep my new iPad protected and charged. It also kept my iPhone charged while I was away from home for a few days. I can't recommend this case highly enough. (Posted on 10/22/12)
